Installation

Six commands, from install to your first scan. Everything runs on your machine.

1. Check Node.js

You need Node.js 22.12 or newer.

node --version

2. Install the CLI

One command, global install.

npm install -g https://github.com/Sami-BUTRT/dotation-cli/releases/latest/download/dotation.tgz

3. Check the install

It prints the version number.

dotation --version

4. Run your first scan

In your project folder. The scan runs locally: nothing is sent.

dotation scan

5. Set up the project

Creates the config file, the pre-commit hook and the GitHub Action.

dotation init

6. Connect your coding agent

For Claude Code, Cursor and others: installs the dotation skill and registers the MCP server.

Optional engines for deeper scans

If one is missing, dotation tells you how to install it. For OSV-Scanner, then run dotation update-db.
